Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Faily Education Rights and Privacy Act is s a U.S. federal law protecting the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.
FERPA strictly prohibits access to student records by any third party, including parents, with certain limited exceptions, unless the student gives written authorization to do so. Without the written authorization of the student, Mohawk Valley Community College will not discuss a student's education records with any individual.
