Program information

If it’s your dream to own or run a small business, our Small Business Management Certificate program will put you on the right path. Courses emphasize the hands-on skills you’ll need to run a successful business enterprise, with the option to complete an internship under small business owners. Many of these courses can also be used to earn a degree in MVCC’s business-related programs.

Upon completion of the nine-month program, students should be competent in all of the following areas:

  • Preparation to own or operate a small business or transfer into a degree program
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse business population
  • Effective communication
  • Ability to solve business problems and use technology as a problem-solving tool
  • Understanding of basic bookkeeping practices and the ability to calculate price margins, markups and business ratios
  • Ability to gather, organize, manage, and interpret data
  • Knowledge of financial and market information and resources available to small business owners
  • Information literacy using traditional and contemporary information technology and the ability to identify, access, and appropriately use authoritative sources of information
