Motivational speaker Nick Tokman, also known as “Sunshine” from Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch,” will make an appearance at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica later this month.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024, in Schafer Theater. Admission is free, but seating is limited. To reserve your spot, email ctp@mvcc.edu or call 315-731-5818.
Tokman’s engaging presentation, “Become Your Captain: Catch Your Future,” is tailored for high school and young college students (ages 14 and older) and aims to empower them to discover their passions, set career goals, and stay focused on their educational journeys. Tokman will share his personal experiences and offer practical advice on overcoming adversity, handling negative influences, and leveraging failure for success.
The event is being presented by MVCC’s Career Transition Program, which provides Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to support students ages 14-22 with disabilities in preparing for the workplace. This free program, funded by Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR), helps students identify career interests, develop employment-related soft skills, explore post-secondary education options, and gain real-world work experience.
The MVCC Career Transition Program is committed to addressing the career development needs of students with disabilities, encouraging their active participation in vocational planning, and preparing them for successful, independent futures. Learn more about the Career Transition Program.
