On Friday, May 10, at 4:30 p.m., Commencement exercises will be held for the Class of 2024 at the Adirondack Bank Center, 400 Oriskany St. W., Utica, NY, 13502, for all degree and certificate candidates (May and August).
Parking
Please observe all parking signs in the vicinity of the Adirondack Bank Center. Parking is available on streets, in adjacent garages and lots, including the Adirondack Bank Center.
Guidelines for Dress and Behavior
Use common sense and dress appropriately for the occasion. No alcoholic beverages are permitted anywhere in the Adirondack Bank Center. Any alcohol will be confiscated prior to and during the ceremony. Behavior during the ceremony is expected to be mature and in line with the dignity of the occasion. Texting and cell phone use is prohibited during the ceremony.
Arrival Time
Graduates should arrive by 3 p.m. in the entrance level of the Adirondack Bank Center (follow the signs) and you will be directed to the Student Check-In Tables where you will pick up your Graduation Name Card. After picking up a Graduation Name Card, you will then be directed to your line-of-march area where you will look for wall posters indicating your academic major. A faculty member or Commencement Marshal will line graduates up in alphabetical order by last name (make sure not to lose your Graduation Name Card). All candidates must be in cap and gown, in proper order, by 3:45 p.m. Guests of graduates should go directly to their seats (no tickets are required and seating is general admission).
And don’t worry about anything — Commencement Marshals will be on site should you need any assistance. This is a time to celebrate!
Processional
Commencement Marshals will lead graduates to the proper row of seats. Remove hats and remain standing through the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance.
Presentation of Class
Vice President Kahler will present the graduating class to President VanWagoner. Graduates should stand during this presentation. After the presentation, Commencement Marshals will lead rows of graduates to the stage. Please remain seated until your row is called.
When Graduates Reach the Stage
Graduates, when you reach the stage, stay at the bottom of the stairs until the person in front of you begins to walk across the stage. Walk up the steps, hand your card to the individual at the podium and wait for your name to be called. Then, walk across the stage to receive your diploma cover. Continue walking across the stage, and a Commencement Marshal will guide you back to your row of seats. Remain standing until everyone in your row is back and then be seated.
Recessional
Remain standing until your row is led out by the Commencement Marshal. Proceed out at a normal walking pace, following the direction of the Marshal.
Your Diploma and Diploma Cover
The diploma cover graduates receive from President VanWagoner will be empty. All diplomas will be mailed within six to eight weeks following the ceremony.
