Program information
Dental hygienists are essential in preventing disease and promoting oral health. MVCC's Dental Hygiene program provides foundational scientific knowledge and practical experience necessary for effective patient care.
This two-year competency-based program combines hands-on learning with extensive clinical training to help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a focus on disease prevention, professionalism, and ethical judgment. It also fulfills certification requirements for dental hygiene anesthesia.
Clinical training takes place at our Rome Campus in a state-of-the-art dental hygiene clinic equipped with advanced software and digital imaging technology, giving students the opportunity to apply what they learn in a professional clinical environment. Under the supervision of experienced dental hygienists and dentists, students deliver preventive and therapeutic oral health services.
Graduates are eligible to take the credentialing exams required for a New York dental hygiene license and anesthesia certificate. Passing all exams is necessary for professional licensure in New York State.
Accreditation
MVCC's Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and was granted “initial accreditation” status in 2026. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. CODA can be contacted at 312-440-4653 or at 401 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 3300, Chicago, IL 60611-4250. Online information is available on the CODA website.
