Image of Dr. Karey PineMohawk Valley Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Karey Pine as the new Vice President for Student Affairs. Pine’s appointment follows a national search and was confirmed by the Board of Trustees on Sept. 16.

In her new role, Pine will offer visionary leadership in student support services, serve on the President’s Cabinet, and provide strategic recommendations on policies and initiatives to further the College’s mission of student success and community engagement.

A seasoned leader in higher education, Pine brings more than 30 years of experience and a wealth of diverse expertise to MVCC. She previously served as Dean of Students and Associate Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Wells College, Vice President for Student Affairs at Cazenovia College, and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at SUNY Brockport. From 1989 to 2011, Pine held several leadership positions at the Rochester Institute of Technology, including Resident Area Coordinator, Director of the Student Life Team at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and Senior Director for the Center for Campus Life.

“Dr. Pine brings a great deal of diverse experiences in student affairs to this position,” said MVCC President Dr. Randall J. VanWagoner. “I’m confident that her positive energy and leadership skills will make meaningful contributions to the MVCC culture and the overall success of our students.” 

Reflecting on her new role, Pine said, “As I have learned about the College, what is most apparent is the people and the places that are MVCC are centered on support for students, their success, and the communities where they live and work. I am both humbled and excited to be joining the College at this critical time and with teams and colleagues who so clearly live its mission and make a difference each day.”

Pine holds a Ph.D. in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher College, a master’s degree in Career and Human Resource Development from RIT, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from William Smith College.
