Mohawk Valley Community College will host the Myanmar/Burmese Festival of Light and Water at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at its Utica Campus. Admission is free.
The festival, a celebration of Thingyan, the Myanmar/Burmese New Year, will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Alumni College Center Commons, where visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy Burmese music, learn to make lanterns, and learn about Burmese culture.
The Water Festival will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. outside on the Quad. A hallmark of Thingyan, the Water Festival involves the playful tradition of water-throwing, symbolizing the cleansing of the old year and the dawn of a new beginning.
