Mohawk Valley Community College and Indium Corporation today announced a successful partnership that led to Indium Corporation’s development of new 3D printing technologies by utilizing the fabrication lab at MVCC’s Utica Campus, 1101 Sherman Drive.
With its state-of-the-art FABLab, MVCC was able to support Indium Corporation, a premier materials supplier to the global microelectronics and semiconductor markets, in the development of new intellectual property — novel metal 3D printing technologies — by providing essential facilities and equipment required for research and development.
“At MVCC, we are honored to continue to work with innovative companies like Indium Corporation to seek pioneering solutions to the most difficult challenges and focus on delivering unique learning experiences to our students,” said MVCC President Randall J. VanWagoner, Ph.D. “This partnership is a reflection of the dedication by our industry partners, faculty, and staff to a state-of-the-art facility that is recognized for the difference it makes in critical areas of innovation in our community and beyond.”
“At Indium Corporation, we partner with colleges and universities around the world to help us develop cutting-edge, innovative material solutions that enable future technologies,” said Indium Corporation President and Chief Operating Officer Ross Berntson. “Colleges and universities help provide a strong foundation for major advances, while providing students with opportunities to be leaders and innovators. We thank MVCC for their support throughout the research and development phase of this exciting new product.”
MVCC’s FABLab, part of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) global FABLab network, features high-tech industrial-grade fabrication equipment and tools, providing a space for invention, innovation, prototyping, design, and learning for students, local businesses, and the community. The FABLab also houses Tea Leaf Manufacturing LLC, a social enterprise of MVCC that provides increased industry-relevant learning opportunities for students while serving the needs of industry, nonprofits, entrepreneurs, and institutions. MVCC also is home to the Mohawk Valley Small Business Development Center and thINCubator, which enable the College to spur economic growth by supporting local business and entrepreneurship. MVCC also supports regional manufacturers through its Advanced Institute for Manufacturing (AIM), one of New York State’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Centers.
