Several student-athletes at Mohawk Valley Community College received regional and national honors from the National Junior Athletic Association (NJCAA) for the Fall 2021 season. 

Women’s Soccer

Women’s Soccer player Reilly Rich of Ilion was named a First Team All-American, First Team All-Region, and was the Region III Player of the Year. Rich scored more goals — 42 — than any other player in NJCAA soccer and had 10 assists for 94 points this season. She also broke the College’s women’s soccer single-season goals record. Rich is a sophomore Nursing major.

The following players were named to the Women’s Soccer First Team All-Region:

  • Olivia Bochniak of Barneveld
  • Reilly Rich of Ilion
  • Jordyn Squire of Poland

The following players were named to the Women’s Soccer Second Team All-Region:

  • Jazmyn Gillette of Ilion
  • Carissa Roux of Ilion

Men’s Soccer

Men’s Soccer player Elhadji Sidibe of Syracuse was named a Second Team All-American and First Team All-Region. Sidibe lead the Hawks with 14 goals and 28 points this year. He is a freshman Computer Science major.

The following players were named to the Men’s Soccer First Team All-Region:

  • Douglas Barrera Yanes of Port Washington
  • Abdullahi Gedow of Utica
  • Elhadji Sidibe of Syracuse

The following players were named to the Men’s Soccer Second Team All-Region:

  • Matthis Couinet of Vernaison, France
  • Lewis Wilson of Bracknell, England

MVCC Men’s Soccer Coach Dominic DiMaggio was named Region III Coach of the Year.

Women’s Tennis

Women’s Tennis players Julia Cucci and Elina Brutsky were named Second Team All-Americans. Cucci of Poland is a freshman Civil Engineering Technology major and Brutsky of Utica is a sophomore Nursing major. The Hawks were the regional women’s tennis champions and advanced to the National Championship, where Cucci and Brutsky took second place national runner-up in the third doubles flight. 

The following players were named to First Team All-Region Singles:

  • Selma Dizdarevic of Utica
  • Julia Cucci of Poland
  • Sara Mierek of Steuben
  • Callie Ott of Rome
  • Jackie Mann of Prospect
  • Elina Brutsky of Utica

The following players were named to First Team All-Region Doubles:

  • Selma Dizdarevic and Callie Ott
  • Sara Mierek and Jackie Mann
  • Julia Cucci and Elina Brutsky

MVCC Women’s Tennis Coach Nick Evanoff was named Region III Coach of the Year.
