The Mohawk Valley Community College Basketball Program will host the co-ed Junior Hawks Spring League for children ages 5 to 10 on Sundays, March 22 through April 26, at the Jorgensen Athletic and Event Center at the College’s Utica Campus.
Skills development and games will take place at the Jorgensen Center at noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. every Sunday during the league, except for April 12, when there are no games. The cost per player is $55, which includes a team shirt, pre-game skills development with Head Coach Matt St. Croix, assistant coaches, and players from MVCC’s nationally ranked basketball team as point guards in the beginner and intermediate divisions to help keep the games structured. Parent coaches also are needed, and community teams are accepted. The league is organized into three skill groups:
- Beginner: A fun introduction to the game with college student point guards; suggested grades: kindergarten and first grade, with a 6-foot hoop.
- Intermediate: Semi-competitive with college student point guards; suggested grades: 1-3, with an 8-foot hoop.
- Advanced: Competitive with referee; suggested age: 10 and younger, with 10-foot hoop.
Space is limited to the first 200 registrants. To register your child, visit https://www2.mvcc.edu/forms/sportscamps/mens_basketball/league/index.cfm. For more information, call St. Croix at 315-792-5571 or email him at mstcroix@mvcc.edu.
