Michael Henningsen, a student support advisor at Mohawk Valley Community College, recently received the Excellence in Transfer Services Award from the New York State Transfer and Articulation Association (NYSTAA). The award was presented during the 26th Annual NYSTAA Conference, held at the Hotel Ithaca, on May 22.
The award recognizes NYSTAA individuals and/or institutional members who have done outstanding work in supporting transfer students within the State of New York, through innovative program development and/or individual student advocacy and service.
The nomination form stated that Henningsen “will go the extra mile to ensure students properly understand the transfer process, and he has consistently shown his passion for transfer student success with the development of new activities, workshops and initiatives to support them.”
Such initiatives include the MVCC transfer fair, activities for National Transfer Student Week, Instant Admit Days, advisor-in-residence visits, and college trips for students preparing to transfer to four-year institutions. Henningsen has been with the College since 2010.
