Mohawk Valley Community College announces the following new appointments, employee title changes, and promotions as approved by the Board of Trustees at their Dec. 19, 2022, and Jan. 13, 2023, meetings:

In recognition of his many years of outstanding service, Gary Broadhurst has been named Administrator and Professor Emeritus. 

Grant Calogero has transitioned to the grant-funded position of Coordinator for the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) and will be responsible for oversite of the program. He has been working at MVCC since 2021 as a Job Corps Scholars Counselor and has been the Assistant Coach for the Men’s Soccer team since 2018. Before joining the College, he was a case worker for Child Protective Services (CPS) and a workforce development counselor, both in Oneida County. Calogero holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Polytechnic Institute and an associate degree in Liberal Arts from MVCC. 

James Dixon has transitioned to the grant-funded position of Counselor in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). He will promote a culture of student success to provide a holistic system of support and collaborate with the College departments and schools. He will actively engage EOP students and develop a community. Dixon has been working at MVCC since 2020 as a YouthBuild Case Manager. He has held positions as an after-school program manager and mentor for the John F. Kennedy Advantage After-School Program; a program assistant for ACR Health; a math and English tutor for the Police League, Youth Link Division, in Brooklyn; and a Rites of Passage Program coordinator, community associate, and restorative dean for the Nelson Mandela School for Social Justice (NMSSJ) in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Marissa Flo has transitioned to the position of Payroll Analyst in the Payroll Office. She will be responsible for reviewing payroll data and documents for inefficiencies and errors, check whether all amounts are accurate based on hours worked, and ensure payments are made on time. She has worked at MVCC since 2019 as an Administrative Assistant. Flo holds a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Utica University and an associate degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from MVCC.

In recognition of her many years of outstanding service, Kathleen Kresa has been recognized as a Distinguished Retiree.

Nicole Law has been appointed to the position of Admissions Counselor. She will be responsible for recruiting students to achieve college enrollment objectives by working with high school counselors, participating in information programs, and assisting students in the selection of educational programs. Law previously worked as a prevention program coordinator and domestic violence advocate for the Herkimer County Catholic Charities and was a studio manager for Janelle Rodriguez Photography in Utica. She holds a bachelor’s degree in studio art from Cazenovia College and an associate degree in photographic technology from Herkimer County Community College.

Heidi Palmiter was appointed to the position of Instructor in the School of Health Sciences. She will provide instruction, assist senior faculty in course revisions and curriculum writing, advise students, serve on College and department committees and perform other appropriate professional obligations. She comes to the College from Lutheran Care, where she was the health information services coordinator. Palmiter holds a bachelor’s degree in health information management from CUNY School of Professional Studies in New York City and an associate degree from MVCC.

Kathleen Samide has transitioned to the position of Purchasing Coordinator and will be responsible for directing the acquisition of goods and services through a centralized purchasing system for the College’s operations. She has worked at the College since 2021, first as a Purchasing Assistant and then as a Senior Buyer. Before joining the College, Samide held positions as a customer service representative for Medicaid Answering Services, Fred F. Collis & Sons, and ConMed Corporation. She also was a key account specialist for Northern Safety. She holds an associate degree in Business Management from MVCC.

Sharrone Sofer was appointed to the grant-funded position of Business Consultant in the Mohawk Valley Small Business Development Center (SBDC). He will provide business advisement services to a variety of small businesses and entrepreneurs engaged in starting, managing, growing, or purchasing a business. He and his wife are owners of the Compound sandwich shops in Clinton and Utica’s Bagg’s Square. He holds a bachelor’s degree in linguistics and English from the University of Texas at Austin. 

Matthew Wagner has been appointed to the position of Technical Coordinator of Events and Guest Services and will provide skilled technical assistance to all external and internal groups that use non-classroom facilities, and is responsible for the upkeep, operation, and supervision of the College’s non-classroom theatrical, performance, and conference audio-visual and lighting systems, rigging systems, and other Events and Guest Services equipment. Wagner was most recently a self-employed freelance location audio mixer and has several years of experience in the audio engineering field. He holds an associate degree in recording arts from Full Sail Real University in Winter Park, Fla.

These appointments and promotions reflect the MVCC’s commitment to providing excellent service to its students and community. The College is excited to welcome these new hires and looks forward to their contributions to the College's mission.
