Mohawk Valley Community College will host "Crack the Code: Is Coding A Career for You?," a two-part virtual information session workshop to provide a hands-on opportunity to explore computer programming as a possible career choice for free before enrolling in the program. 

Each workshop session will be held via Zoom from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20 and 27. Local employer Indium Corporation will have representatives on hand to discuss the need for qualified candidates to enter the workforce in this high-demand field. 

The purpose of the sessions is to encourage unemployed and underemployed adults who may have the capacity to become coders to try it out for free before enrolling in MVCC’s Code Academy micro-credential program. Topics will include an introduction to basic development tools, including Mbot and Hello World; demonstrations in Python, C++, and Java; and reverse engineering and modifying of an HTML webpage.

Individuals who are interested in developing coding skills and entering the local workforce as programmers may sign up to begin the MVCC Code Academy this Fall. Students take two evening classes (6 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays) per semester for two semesters in order to complete the credential and earn a Credly badge recognizing their skills. The total cost for the MVCC Code Academy is $2,936, plus books; financial aid is available for those who qualify.
