The Advanced Institute for Manufacturing (AIM) at Mohawk Valley Community College is holding an information session via Zoom at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, to explain the basics of its new pre-apprenticeship program with Giotto Enterprises in Oriskany, N.Y. The program will be a paid two-week training that introduces students to the various trades in which they can get Registered Apprenticeships within Giotto’s group of manufacturing affiliates.

The first cohort of this program will begin in early April 2021, and is geared toward students interested in general manufacturing, CNC machining, injection molding, or working as an extrusion operator, sheet metal operator, or quality assurance auditor. It will introduce students to basic trade topics used in manufacturing such as basic trade math, communication skills, and quality control and inspection.

At the conclusion of the program, students will have a better understanding of what each company does and where they think they could be a good fit within those companies. Students who demonstrate potential will be offered a full-time, paid New York State Registered Apprenticeship within one of the Giotto affiliate companies.

“The partnership between MVCC and Giotto Enterprises is another great example of the Mohawk Valley manufacturing community working with MVCC to grow a talented and necessary workforce,” said Cory Albrecht, director of AIM. “The earn-and-learn model works and provides many benefits to all partners that are involved. This is a tremendous opportunity for those individuals who might be looking for a technical career with Giotto Enterprises and any of their affiliate manufacturing businesses.”

Giotto Enterprises’ affiliates include Fiber Instrument Sales, Inc.; The Light Connection, Inc.; FIS Blue, Inc.; Molding Solutions, Inc.; Force Guided Relays; Fermer Precision; and Oriskany Arms.
