Mohawk Valley Community College is launching MV Tech Corps, a free program for eligible students to receive short-term training and a college credential to equip them for regionally in-demand tech and trade careers.

Through MV Tech Corps, funded through the Oneida County Local Development Corporation, students will receive career technical training and individualized personal and employment counseling. Students can choose from MVCC’s Mechatronics, Carpentry/Masonry, CNC Machinist Technology, and Welding certificate programs, each taking eight months to complete. Those who complete the program and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent will earn the associated Certificate from the College and also will be guaranteed a job interview with Cree Wolfspeed in Marcy and Briggs and Stratton in Sherrill.

“The Oneida County Local Development Corporation and its Board of Directors are proud to provide support for the MV Tech Corps workforce development program being administered by MVCC, as its graduates will be trained for entry into our workforce and assist in the success of our local businesses,” said David Grow, chairman of the Oneida County Local Development Corporation. “Training the next generation of workforce to support our employers is incredibly important and MV Tech Corps is a great solution to getting Oneida County residents trained in skilled labor positions that are available at growing companies like Briggs and Stratton and Cree Wolfspeed.”

To be eligible, students must be ages 17 to 24; a current resident of Oneida County; and a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or citizen of a U.S. territory.
