Great Teaching Seminar

The Great Teaching Seminar is based on the premise that teachers learn best from one
another and that creativity in teaching is enhanced by mixing teachers of diverse
teaching fields, experience levels and, interests. The ultimate goal of a GTS is to
strengthen the delivery of education through the celebration of great teaching. The
seminar is based on the Great Teachers Movement and has been offered by many colleges
throughout North America with great success.

Safe Space Training

Safe Space training is designed for individuals who wish to learn more about the LGBTQ+
community and/or for those who wish to be identified as an ally for the LGBTQ+ community
at MVCC. This workshop is interactive and will frame the role of LGBTQ+ allies on
and beyond campus by introducing resources and providing the tools needed to create
a fully inclusive community.

Active Shooter
Presenter(s): Ryan Barsuch
This presentation will detail a variety of potential life-threatening scenarios and
will provide attendees with learning exercises focused on practical emergency survival
skills. It will also cover the role of law enforcement, procedures for notifications
of emerging events, and definitions of key terms such as "shelter in place."

Members of Senate Advisory

Join us for an engaging 90-minute workshop designed for Senate mentors and mentees
to deepen their understanding of shared governance at Mohawk Valley Community College
through the lens of the College Senate. This session will provide a comprehensive
overview of MVCC's Senate structure, including its composition, the basics of governance,
and the Senate's oversight of its Committees and Councils. Participants will explore
the types of agenda items brought to the Senate, gain clarity on the role of the Senate
Advisory Committee, and learn about MVCC's adapted version of Robert's Rules of Order.
Whether you're new to shared governance or looking to strengthen your mentorship around
it, this session offers valuable insights and tools to navigate and contribute to
the Senate process more effectively. While current Senators are encouraged to attend,
any College members interested in shared governance at MVCC are welcome.
