Mohawk Valley Community Colleges uses two evaluative tools to help assess college readiness: a hand-written sample for determining compositional skills and a computer-adaptive testing system from American College Testing (ACT) called COMPASS that determines math and reading skill-level.

The results are made available during your advisement session with an academic advisor through the Academic Advising Center. Test results are used as a guide to help advisors determine the appropriate level of courses individual students are required to take. If you have questions concerning English as a Second Language (ESL) placement testing, please contact us at 315-731-5802.
