First in the World

The State University of NFour Major Programsew York at Oswego is leading the project, Transfer Gateways and Completion, in partnership with 3 local community colleges, including Mohawk Valley Community College, and a best-practice college access and success program, On Point for College. Through Transfer Gateways and Completion, four strategic interventions have been designed to provide support for transfer students. These interventions include Program Pathways, Advisement and Support, Preparatory and Transition Courses, and Institutional Agreements. Our goal is to help transfer students save time and money as they work towards degree completion!

 


 

Program Pathways:

Faculty from Mohawk Valley Community College and SUNY Oswego meet to discuss challenges for transfers to create solutions. In these meetings, advising guides "Passport to Oswego" are being created for various majors. These passports will start to target the following popular transfer majors: Business Administration, Public Justice, Psychology, Human Development, Broadcasting and Mass Communication and Accounting.

Advisement and One-On-One Unconditional Support:

Our Transfer Advisor who works with this program, Jaime Sangiacomo-Jackson assists students will creating a plan that works for themk here at Mohawk Valley Community College and sets them up for success at the 4-yr college. Jaime also works in conjunction with Transfer Advisors at On Point for College, who helps students during every phase of their college journey from the initial application at the community college, through navigation of the transfer process, to completion of a Bachelor's Degree. If students are interested in transferrinfg to SUNY Oswego, there are dedicated Transfer Success Advisors who assist students both before and after they arrive on campus. Many questions are answered before students transfer to SUNY Oswego, and advisors help students complete their transition by offering strategies for success and by assisting with degree completion plans.

Institutional Agreements:

General Articulation Agreements between SUNY Oswego and Mohawk Valley Community College are being updated. We have entered into a Dual Enrollment agreement where students who come to MVCC and already indicate their interest in transferring to SUNY Oswego right on their MVCC Admissions Application!
