Value Proposition
Futuring — Innovation — Transformation

What:

The Community College Horizon Network is a unique, collaborative learning community with an agenda focused on organizational learning about alternative futures, disruptive innovation, and strategies for transformation leading to extraordinary performance and growth.

The Network is designed to achieve the following objectives:

  • Map alternative futures for community colleges through analysis of research and environmental forecast data, analytics and business intelligence, and idea sharing with organizations at the cutting edge of thought and practice.
  • Identify where opportunities for innovation—disruptive and sustaining—will be realized in the future.
  • Propel colleges forward in the pursuit of innovation through transformative strategies that alter traditional business models, organizational architecture, and culture and systems.
  • Foster institutional growth and development through cross-institutional idea sharing and collaboration in the pursuit and execution of innovation and change.

Why:

In a relatively short period of time, community colleges have transformed from a novel, experimental sector of higher education into the largest and, arguably, most diverse sector of higher education in the United States. They face enormous challenges, however, in the form of resources, competitors, and constituency demands that constrain their capacity. The overarching aim of the Horizon Network is to augment an institution’s ability to respond more nimbly to internal and external pressures via exposures to, networking with and mentoring from progressive and like-minded college leaders.

Who:

Five to eight community colleges with a proven track record of innovation and transformation leading to extraordinary performance.
