Description: Louis A. Falvo, Jr. was born and raised in Utica. He attended Utica area schools
and graduated from L. C. Smith College of Engineering at Syracuse University and received
his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. Louis was a true gentleman, family
man and successful businessman who contributed much to his community. Giving back
to the community was extremely important to Louis. He believed that philanthropic
pursuits would allow him to contribute to the success of society.
Louis passed away in March of 2012, and in his memory, his family has established
this scholarship to be awarded each year to a graduating student who is pursuing further
study for an advanced degree in engineering or construction management.

Description: This Airframe and Powerplant Technology Scholarship honors Rudolph J. and Shirley J. Goebel’s love of aviation and also their long friendship with John ‘Laddie’ and Alice Leitz who fostered and supported their common interest.
Having worked hard their entire lives while building their own homes and raising and educating their children, Rudy was finally able to embrace flying after their own ‘birds’ had fledged. Shirley always was there to assist and support, and spent many pleasant hours with Alice and Laddie while Rudy earned his wings at the Frankfort-Highland Airport. After retiring Rudy built two airplanes and continued his interest in the airplane ‘communities’ in other parts of the country.

Description: Larry Brinker is the former CEO of the NUAIR Alliance, a New York based not-for-profit
coalition of more than 200 private and public entities and academic institutions working
together to operate and oversee Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) testing in New York,
Massachusetts and Michigan. Headquartered in Syracuse, NY, the NUAIR Alliance supports
the New York UAS Test Site at Griffiss International Airport in Rome, NY, one of just
seven FAA-designated UAS test sites in the United States. They are at the forefront
of public policy development, commercialization, and integration of UAS technology.
Under Larry’s leadership, the Central New York and the Mohawk Valley regions are leading
the research and deployment technologies for safe UAS operations in the nation’s airspace,
including launching the nation’s first 50-mile corridor for UAS testing. It has always
been a priority of Larry and the NUAIR Alliance to provide students with the opportunity
to work as pilots, operators and/or mission team members of UAS while fully understanding
the operational and safety environments of the National Airspace.

- Must be full-time student
- Must be enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Technology or Electrical Service Technical program
- Must have a GPA of 2.0.
- Must be a Utica resident OR
- Must be a graduate from Utica City schools
- Preference will be given to students involved in extracurricular activities
- Preference will be given to incoming freshmen. If no incoming students apply, then 2nd year students will be considered

Description: This scholarship was established in memory of Robert G. & Emelia C. VanDerWarker.
Robert, a former mayor of Holland Patent, passed away in 1990 and Emelia, an active
member of her community, passed away in 2008.
Amount Awarded: Varies

- Must be a graduate of a Herkimer or Oneida County High School
- Pursuing a degree in an occupational or trade program
- Shows financial need and/or family hardship
