Mohawk Valley Community College will host several information sessions on the Job Corps Scholars program, a grant-funded cohort opportunity for young people to earn an MVCC career certificate for free. The next cohort begins on Aug. 30, 2021.

The information sessions will be held in Wilcox Hall room 225 at MVCC’s Utica Campus, 1101 Sherman Drive. Registration is encouraged but not required, and walk-ins will be accepted. Those wishing to register for a session may call 315-792-5365 or sign up using the appropriate registration link below. The schedule is as follows:

MVCC’s Job Corps Scholars program, funded through a grant by the U.S. Department of Labor, provides students with career technical training and individualized personal and employment counseling. Students who complete their program receive SUNY-recognized certificates and are guaranteed job interviews with local businesses, such as Cree Wolfspeed, Briggs & Stratton, and the Carpenters Union. Students can choose from the following career certificates, which take less than one year to complete at MVCC:

  • Administrative Assistant
  • Airframe and Powerplant (aviation mechanic)
  • Carpentry and Masonry
  • Chef Training
  • CNC Machining Technology
  • Cybersecurity
  • Finance
  • HVAC
  • Law Enforcement
  • Mechatronics
  • Tractor Trailer (CDL A License)
  • Welding

To be eligible for the program, students must be 16 to 24 years old, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, first-time college enrollee or dropout, and qualify as low-income. To learn more about the program, visit www.mvcc.edu/job-corps.
