Zogby chairs MVCC's 'Challenge and Opportunity' campaign

Dec 15, 2010

As it prepares for its first-ever comprehensive major gifts campaign, Mohawk Valley Community College announces that John Zogby has volunteered to serve as campaign chair. Zogby, the Chairman of the Board and Chief Insights Officer of Zogby International Research LLC, will lead MVCC' volunteer executive committee in conducting the "Challenge and Opportunity" campaign.

"MVCC is at the center of this community' economic, intellectual, and lifestyle aspirations," says Zogby. "I am proud to invest in the college' future, and I am tremendously excited to see what pivotal role MVCC will play in the Mohawk Valley' future." As chair, Zogby will lead a team of volunteer community leaders to solicit community investment in MVCC. Campaign goals and other details will be publicly announced as the campaign gets underway.

Zogby' connections to the college go back to when he was an instructor from 1977-81, and numerous members of his family have studied or taught at the college since then. Zogby has worked frequently with the college, most recently as a volunteer consultant to the President' Cabinet and Board of Trustees on trends in student demographics and as the organizer of this summer' public lecture by Ralph Nader.

Zogby is best known for his founding role at Zogby International, which is widely proclaimed as one of the world' top polling firms. The firm has distinguished itself with a sterling record for accuracy in predicting too-close-to-call elections and its high profile in the media has made Zogby a household name in America and beyond. John Zogby has furthered these explorations as a pundit and the author of books including "The Way We'll Be." His columns appear regularly in publications including the Huffington Post, Wall Street Journal, and U.S. News & World Report.

"John' dynamism and deep intellect are the perfect fit for our college, and his willingness to volunteer in many ways reinforces his dedication to this community," says MVCC President Randall VanWagoner, Ph.D.

Adds VanWagoner, "All signs point to this being the right time for our college to go into campaign. There is greater need for what a community college provides, strong community support, MVCC' growing momentum, and ever more creative partnerships with our alumni, businesses, and others. I'm buoyed to think about the benefits that John' leadership will bring."

The campaign' public launch is scheduled for fall 2011. Zogby and his fellow volunteers will be supported by MVCC advancement staff as they seek community investments in four major areas:

  • Creating Student Opportunity via scholarships;
  • Breaking Barriers by reconnecting displaced learners with college;
  • Revitalizing Our Economy with new resources for entrepreneurs and residents of the Cornhill area; and
  • Educational Excellence through new resources for allied health students, technology, and cultural offerings.

Additional details of the Challenge and Opportunity campaign will be announced over the coming months. For more information, visit mvcc.edu or call Frank DuRoss at (315) 792-5526.
