Mohawk Valley Community College and KissFM 97.9/105.5 today announced that acoustic pop rocker Phillip Phillips will headline this year’s Spring Meltdown on Saturday, April 27, at 8 p.m. in the Robert R. Jorgensen Athletic and Events Center on MVCC’s Utica campus.
“‘American Idol’ season 11 winner Phillip Phillips is one of the biggest musical acts today, and his debut album is amazing,” says Bill Dustin, Events Administrator at MVCC. “He’s everywhere; just turn on your television – his song ‘Home’ is on almost every commercial. We are thrilled to bring him to MVCC and the community.”
Standing room only tickets for The Spring Meltdown cost $30 for general admission, and $25 for faculty and staff. A limited supply of free tickets is available for MVCC students with ID. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 1, at 12:01 a.m. through the MVCC Box Office (731-5721) and online at www.mvcc.edu/tickets.
Dustin advises fans to get their tickets as soon as they can. “The 2013 Spring Meltdown is sure to sell out, and we expect tickets to sell very quickly.”
Phillips’ debut single and coronation song, “Home,” has made him an acoustic pop rock sensation, catapulting him to the top of the charts while showcasing the rich, raspy vocals and masterful guitar skills he became known for on “Idol.” In addition to television commercials, “Home” has been used in movie trailers, TV shows, and in coverage of the Olympics. Phillips’ first album, “The World from the Side of the Moon,” was released in November, debuting at No. 4 in the Billboard 200.
