Mohawk Valley Community College’s Board of Trustees member David Mathis was honored with The Genesis Group’s Joseph R. Carucci Legacy Award at their 17th Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Oct. 26.

The award was created to honor the late Joe Carucci, founder and president of The Genesis Group and owner of Prudential Carucci Real Estate, who was involved in many facets of the community and created The Genesis Group to support regional unity. Each year, the award is given to individuals who exemplify the same dedication that Carucci had for this community.

Mathis, a 1970 MVCC graduate, has been successively serving as a trustee since his Oneida County Executive appointment in 1977. He was vice president of the Board in 2010, and has been chair of the Board three times, with terms held from 1983 to 1987, 2004 to 2006, and 2013 to 2015. Mathis is employed as director of the Oneida County Workforce Development, a position he’s held since 1988.

Incredibly active in the community, Mathis sits on a variety of other boards, including the House of Good Shepherd Board of Trustees, the Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency Board of Directors, the Stanley Center for the Arts Board of Directors, and the Oneida County BOCES Advisory Council for Career and Technical Education.

Mathis has received many awards for his community involvement. Among them are the United Way “Hero Award,” the Oneida County NAACP Achievement Award, the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award, the Association of Community College Trustees Northeast Trustee Leadership Award, and he was named an Oneida County Historical Society Living Legend.
