Jul 19, 2018
Tamara Mariotti, coordinator of accessibility resources at MVCC, was recently honored with the New York State Disability Services Council (NYSDSC) Diversity & Advocacy Award, which recognizes her outstanding actions and educational outreach that promote diversity, advocacy, inclusion, and empowerment of individuals with disabilities.
Mariotti, who has been with MVCC’s Office of Accessibility Resources since 2008, is also co-chair of the New York State Education Department Advisory Council on Higher Education for students with disabilities, and past president of the New York State Disability Services Council. She has been recognized for her work and advocacy before, having won the 2017 MVCC Pride of the Hawk Award and the 2018 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award.
The NYSDSC is an independent, professional organization of individuals who have responsibility for the provision of disability services to students in New York State in degree-granting institutions of higher education. The NYSDSC provides a forum to discuss and find solutions to common problems in the delivery of disability services to postsecondary students. It serves as a vehicle for communicating disability service issues and concerns to campus administrators, state and federal agencies, the State Education Department, and SUNY Central Administration. It also serves as a resource to government/legislative bodies and/or other organizations.
