MVCC’s Advanced Institute for Manufacturing awarded cybersecurity grant
Nov 1, 2018
Mohawk Valley Community College’s Advanced Institute for Manufacturing (AIM) was awarded a $303,600 grant by the Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology, and Innovation (NYSTAR) to help bring the state’s more than 1,600 manufacturers who are defense contractors into compliance related to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-171.
Through this grant, AIM will conduct cybersecurity assessments at a minimum of 30 manufacturers to determine the actions needed to meet the requirements of the Special Publication. Once AIM completes the assessment of each manufacturer, they will generate a report of items that need to be implemented. After meeting the requirements, the manufacturers will be presented with a letter of compliance that allows them to retain existing and win new Department of Defense contracts. The whole project will be completed in 13 months.
AIM will partner with two MEP Centers in launching this program statewide: FuzeHub and the Manufacturing & Technology Enterprise Center (MTEC). They will provide AIM with additional marketing and training services.
AIM provides small- and medium-sized manufacturers in the Mohawk Valley Region with training, consulting, and technology services that will lead to new product development, cost reductions, increased efficiency, and profits. They also are designated by NYSTAR and NIST as one of 588 field locations across the country that operates as a Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center.
In the past two years, AIM has provided more than 135 manufacturers with cyber risk assessments and education through workshops and seminars. It generally serves a six-county region – Oneida, Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Otsego, and Schoharie – but has worked with employers from across New York State.
Support for this project is provided by New York State's Empire State Development’s Division of Science Technology and Innovation.
