MVCC faculty and staff members receive SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence

Several Mohawk Valley Community College faculty and staff members earned State University of New York Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence are SUNY-level honors conferred to acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence. Individuals selected for this honor are role models within the SUNY community.
Jennifer Schuler (Excellence in Adjunct Teaching): Jennifer Schuler has been an adjunct at MVCC for the past six years, and in that short time, she has made a very positive contribution as a professional chef and as an educator. She is an MVCC alumna, having earned her Chef Training certificate, and associate degree in Culinary Arts with high honors in 2011. From MVCC, she went on to distinguish herself at the New England Culinary Institute with a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts in 2016. Her commitment to student growth and learning is exemplary.
Jerad Zarnoch (Excellence in Classified Service): Senior Building Maintenance Mechanic Jerad Zarnoch has been working at the College since July 2011. He has brought many exceptional talents to the College, and his work always meets the highest standards. Zarnoch, always conscientious and professional, has a very good technical working knowledge of the different types of materials utilized in his craft, and he knows how to best to apply them.
Bill Dustin (Excellence in Professional Service): Director of Events and Guest Services Bill Dustin is an organized, thorough, energetic, communicative, passionate, and proactive administrator who exceeds the expectations of the clients served by the Office of Events and Guest Services. He has created an events team that is incredibly welcoming to MVCC employees, students, and the larger community. He has also been the creator of, and catalyst to, the explosive growth in MVCC’s Cultural Series.
Alison Doughtie (Excellence in Teaching): Professor Alison Doughtie’s educational and professional contributions to her students, colleagues, program, and the community at large are impressive. She teaches in MVCC’s English as a Second Language program and has, over the course of her career, taught most of the courses offered in the program. Doughtie has a passionate, caring commitment to her students’ growth and success, as well as an in-depth understanding of linguistic and cultural concepts, and she knows how to present the information in an accessible way.
Jim Vitale (Excellence in Teaching): Professor Jim Vitale’s primary goal is to encourage every student to reach their potential. He strives to create an environment conducive to learning and sharing, and allows for individualism while promoting responsibility and encouraging creativity and student interaction. Since joining the College in 2001, he has taught 19 different courses for the Art Department.
