MVCC Engineering Science Student Nominated for RPI Transfer Scholarship
MVCC Engineering Science major Meghan Carlo of Rome has been nominated for the Joseph H. Smith Jr. ’45 Award for transfer students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
The Joseph H. Smith Jr. ’45 Award recognizes the most outstanding student in the engineering science program at RPI’s affiliated community colleges. Carlo, an Honors student at MVCC, has received many academic honors while at the college, including the Presidential Scholarship and SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. She also has been named to the Vice President’s and President’s Lists.
Carlo is also active in student government and clubs. She has served as a delegate to Student Congress, and a tutor in the Math Lab. She is a member of the Future Engineers Club, Math Club and Women in Science and Engineering group (WISE), and has been involved in the Sustainability Club and Music Appreciation Club. Last summer, Carlo spent her summer as an intern at Indium Corporation.
Aside from all of her academic achievements, Carlo has earned many athletic honors while at MVCC. A star of MVCC’s national championship-winning soccer team, she has been named Athlete of the Week three times, and was named to the All Mountain Valley Conference Team. In 2012, she was named the All Mohawk Valley Conference Player of the Year. Carlo also was named to the Division III Women’s Soccer All-Tournament Team for both seasons she played with the Hawks. In 2012, Carlo was named second Team All American and NJCAA National Champion. In 2013, she was named NJCAA National Champion Runnerup and NJCAA National Tournament Best Offensive Player. She also has been active in the Indoor Soccer Club, softball, and track and field.
