MVCC Graduate Kaminski Receives Additional Scholarships

Recent MVCC graduate Kateri Kaminski recently added several new scholarships to her long list of academic achievements.

Kaminski, who graduated May 16 with an associate in science degree in Engineering Science from Mohawk Valley Community College, received the New York State Transfer and Articulation Association (NYSTAA) Scholarship, the Harold T. Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarship, and the Rudolph A. Schatzel Scholarship.

The NYSTAA Scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed an associate degree from an active two-year member college with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. The Harold T. Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of Fitzpatrick, an MVCC Math Department faculty member from 1968-1973. Recipients must demonstrate individual growth, overall scholastic achievement, and potential for further achievement. The Rudolph A. Schatzel Scholarship is awarded to a graduating MVCC senior who has been accepted into a transfer program in Mathematics, Engineering, or one of the Physical Sciences. Kaminski plans to transfer to Clarkson University, where she has earned a Transfer Leadership Award.

Kaminski, of Floyd, received many honors during her time at MVCC, including the SUNY Empire State Diversity Scholarship, the Helen Siner Memorial Scholarship from the New York State Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges, the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship, and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. She came to MVCC as Presidential Scholar, a graduate of the Seton Home Study School with a 4.0 GPA. At MVCC, Kaminski has been involved in the Student Activities Committee, the Engineering Science Club, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Future Engineers Club, and the Women in Engineering and Science (WISE) group. She has been treasurer and event coordinator for the Latino Student Union and has served as an International Student Mentor. Kaminski has been named to MVCC’s President’s List, and she works as a peer tutor in the Learning Center. She also volunteers as a referee and assistant coach for the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO).
