MVCC announces new hires, employee title changes, and promotions for May and June

Mohawk Valley Community College announces the following new appointments, employee title changes, and promotions as approved by the Board of Trustees since June 25, 2018:

Nur Cayirdag Acar was appointed to the position of Psychology Instructor in the Social Sciences and Public Services Department. He has held a variety of positions over the last 10 years including as a full-time faculty member at SUNY Buffalo State, an assistant professor at Istanbul Zaim University in Turkey, a school counselor at Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School, and an education program specialist at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. He holds a Ph.D. in guidance and psychological counseling from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey; a master’s degree in gifted and creative education from University of Georgia; a master’s degree in guidance and psychological counseling from Istanbul University; and a bachelor’s degree in guidance and psychological counseling from Bogazici University, also in Istanbul.

Lisa Chamberlin was appointed to the position of Health Professions Resource Specialist, a new position at the College in which she will supervise the Health Professions Resource Center and reinforce learning content and skills with individual students. Chamberlin has been with the College since 2012 as a Health Services Retention Specialist. Prior to joining MVCC, she worked as a high school nurse for the Susquehanna Valley School District for 10 years. She also worked previously as a nurse in several other capacities including as an Upward Bound nurse at Binghamton University, a home health nurse at Kimberly Quality Care, and a staff nurse at United Health Services. Chamberlin holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Syracuse University and a Registered Nurse certification from St. Elizabeth College of Nursing.

Alexandria Compo was appointed to the position of Multimedia Advertising Designer. She will help develop the College’s digital footprint and identity by working with others in the Marketing and Communications department on the creation of print and multimedia graphics. Compo most recently worked as an interactive media specialist at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, and also previously worked as a docent and graphic designer at Wellin in Clinton and as a graphic designer, illustrator, and photographer for FIS+Giotta Enterprise Co. in Oriskany. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Pratt Institute.

Kayleigh Gapp was appointed to the position of Assistant to the Office of Human Resources and Student Employment Coordinator. As such, she will be responsible for providing administrative and office support for the Office of Human Resources. Gapp has worked at the College since 2017 as an Administrative Assistant. Prior to joining MVCC, Gapp worked as a patient registrar for the Mohawk Valley Health System and as an administrative assistant at Himed in Old Bethpage, N.Y. She holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology. 

In recognition of his many outstanding years of service to MVCC, Edwin (Duane) Isenberg was named an Associate Professor Emeritus.

Scott Jackson was appointed to the position of Carpentry/Masonry Instructor in the Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Applied Technologies Department. Jackson has worked as a self-employed carpenter/contractor for 13 years in areas including Martha’s Vineyard, Boston, and Albany. He also has worked as a building consultant for Ireland MV, LLC in Massachusetts and Ireland, an agribusiness consultant/volunteer for the Peace Corps in Bolivia, and a mason for the James Kirsch Construction Company in Chittenango. Jackson holds a master’s degree in building conservation from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from SUNY Oswego, and an associate degree in business administration from Onondaga Community College.

In recognition of his many outstanding years of service to MVCC, Donald Kelly was named a Professor Emeritus.

Patricia Kuhn was appointed to the position of Nursing Instructor in the Health Professions Department. She has worked as adjunct clinical instructor for Crouse Hospital College of Nursing and a clinical instructor and supervisor for BOCES – Oneida/Herkimer/Madison. She also has worked as an RN manager at HomeLife at Folts, LLC, in Herkimer, and as an RN at Slocum-Dickson Medical Group, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, and Crouse Hospital. Kuhn holds a master’s degree in nursing from Southern New Hampshire University, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Grand Canyon University, and a Registered Nurse certification from St. Elizabeth College of Nursing.

Janelle Perry was appointed to the position of Coordinator of Workforce Development in the Center for Corporate and Community Education. In this position, she will be responsible for meeting regional workforce development needs by coordinating the development and delivery of educational programs. Most recently, Perry worked as the communications director for 10 years at High Plains Community Development Corporation in Chadron, Neb. She also has worked as a character education teacher at Cedar South Elementary in Cedar City, Utah, and as an executive assistant and office manager at Chadron Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center. She holds a master’s degree in elementary education from Southern Utah University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Massachusetts.

In recognition of his many outstanding years of service to MVCC, Alexander Piejko was named a Professor Emeritus.

Joshua Piejko was appointed to the position of Animation Instructor in the Art Department. Piejko has been an adjunct instructor at MVCC since 2014 and also has taught classes in an adjunct capacity at SUNY Polytechnic Institute since 2016 and at Pratt Institute in Utica since 2018. He holds a master’s degree in information design and technology from SUNY Polytechnic Institute, a bachelor’s of fine arts degree in video and animation from Rochester Institute of Technology, and an associate degree in illustration from MVCC. 

Amanda Roy-Small was appointed to the position of Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs and will be responsible for the daily and routine operation of the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. She also will maintain, record, and analyze various financial and budgetary detail for the Student Affairs division of the College. Roy-Small has worked at MVCC since 2017 as Assistant to the Office of Human Resources and worked prior to that as an administrative assistant at Bank of America. She holds a bachelor’s degree in arts communications from SUNY College at Oneonta and an associate degree in liberal arts from MVCC.

Mary Slator was appointed to the position of Life Science Instructor in the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department. She was an Adjunct at MVCC from 2015-2016, and also previously taught as an instructor at Utica School of Commerce for 20 years. Prior to teaching, Slator worked as a professional tutor at SUNY Morrisville. She holds a doctor of chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa and a bachelor’s degree in biology from LeMoyne College.

In recognition of his many outstanding years of service to MVCC, Richard Thomas was named a Professor Emeritus.

Carrie Williams was appointed to the position of Life Science Instructor in the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department. She has worked at MVCC as an Adjunct Instructor since 2014, and also has worked as an office manager and co-owner of JD Williams Tax Service since 2013. Other previous positions held include lab sales representative for Cardinal Health in Ohio, quality assurance/quality control associate for EMD Biosciences in San Diego, and a temporary research associate for Diversa Corporation and BD Biosciences, also both in San Diego. Williams holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Utica College, and a master’s degree in biochemistry and a bachelor’s degree in biology, both from Binghamton University.
