MVCC announces new hires, employee title changes, and promotions for August

Mohawk Valley Community College announces the following new appointments, employee title changes, and promotions as approved by the Board of Trustees on their meeting on Aug. 20, 2018:

Kathleen Bouse was transitioned to the position of assistant to the Office of the Vice President for Learning and Academic Affairs. Bouse has been with MVCC since 2017 as a college services associate. In her new position, she will be responsible for performing administrative and office support for the vice president for Learning and Academic Affairs, maintaining the office’s budgetary details, and monitoring information retrieval requirements. Prior to coming to MVCC, she had years of administrative experience working in New York City for international law firms. During her tenure with Clifford Chance, which at that time was the largest law firm in the world, Bouse was honored with being profiled in their global magazine, C. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature and secondary education from SUNY Oswego.
Stephanie Carissimo was appointed to the position of respiratory care instructor in the Health Professions Department. She has served the College previously from 2005-2007 as a clinical adjunct preceptor, returning in this position again this past spring. She also maintained a position as a Registered Respiratory Therapist for the Mohawk Valley Health System from 1998 until beginning her full-time position with MVCC. Carissimo holds an associate degree in respiratory care from MVCC and a bachelor’s degree in respiratory care from Boise State University.
Katey Cordary was appointed to the position of psychology instructor in the Social Sciences and Public Services Department after holding a term position at MVCC since 2017. Prior to joining the College, Cordary worked at Morrisville State College as a professional tutor and adjunct faculty member. She also spent several years as a career counselor/case manager and summer camp supervisor/counselor at Madison County Employment and Training. Cordary holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Cortland, a master’s degree in education from Alfred University, and a Ph.D. in psychology from Capella University.
Dominic DiMaggio was transitioned to the position of head coach/athletics specialist. DiMaggio has led the MVCC men’s soccer team and has served as a physical education faculty member since 2017. He previously worked as part of the Southern New Hampshire University men’s soccer staff as an assistant coach, was the director of Goalkeeping for Seacoast United, and an assistant coach for the U18, U16, and U14 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Teams. DiMaggio coached in the state of New Hampshire for six years and holds his U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) D License. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Southern New Hampshire University and a master’s degree in finance with a concentration in investments with securities.
In recognition of her many outstanding years of service to MVCC, Maryrose Eannace was named Vice President Emerita.
Nicholas Evanoff was appointed to the position of head coach/athletics specialist and will serve as the men’s lacrosse coach. He has previously served as a volunteer assistant boy’s lacrosse coach for Whitesboro High School, assistant lacrosse coach for men’s and women’s lacrosse at Utica College, and supervisor at Syracuse University Lacrosse Camp. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in childhood education from Utica College.
Michael Henningsen has transitioned to the position of coordinator of University Partnerships and Transfer Center in which he will be responsible for the development of institutional partnerships that will create new opportunities for students to complete higher degrees after they graduate from MVCC. He has worked at MVCC since 2010, first as a coordinator of Transfer Services and then as assistant director of Career and Transfer Services. He also has previously served as a residence hall director at Broome Community College and an assistant hall director at University of Buffalo. Henningsen holds an associate degree in human services from Broome Community College, a bachelor’s degree in social work from SUNY Brockport, and a master’s degree in college student personnel administration from Canisius College.
Ann Laird was appointed to the position of National Science Foundation Advanced Technology program coordinator. As such, she will assist the associate dean of the Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Applied Technologies Department with the implementation of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) grant. Laird previously served at Everett Community College in Washington in several capacities since 2013, including faculty advisor, instructor, project director of the NSF ATE, and educational planner. She also worked as an instructor at Shoreline Community College in Washington as a field representative for the U.S. Census Bureau, and an admissions advisor and recruiter for Alaska Pacific University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Alaska Pacific University and a master’s of education degree in leadership from Concordia University.
Brittnee Mexico has transitioned to the position of head coach/athletics specialist. Mexico has led the MVCC women’s softball team and also has served as a coordinator of student athlete success and transfer since 2017. Prior to joining MVCC, Mexico spent six years at Utica College in various positions, including assistant coach of the women’s soccer program, assistant coach for women’s softball, and an Academic Coaching Expert in the Office of Student Success. She also has experience working as the head modified/JV girls softball coach at Herkimer High School and holds certificates in First Aid/CPR and as an American Red Cross Lifeguard. Mexico holds a bachelor’s degree in childhood education and sociology/anthropology from Elmira College and a master’s degree in education from Utica College.
Samantha O’Neil was appointed to the position of career and employer relations specialist and will be responsible for managing internships and partnerships with industry and workforce development agencies and professional career opportunities for MVCC graduates. She also will provide career counseling, resume development, interview skills, and other skills development to assist current students with conducting job searches. Prior to joining MVCC, O’Neil worked at Utica College in several capacities since 2014, including student success and completion navigator, adjunct instructor, and coordinator of enrollment operations. She holds an associate degree in childhood education from MVCC, a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Utica College, and a master’s degree in higher education administration from McKendree University.
Isabella Popowski was appointed to the position of Events and Guest Services associate in which she will provide specialized technical assistance to the administrative staff in the Events and Guest Services Department, manage daily operations of the College’s Box Office, serve as the primary contact for external groups seeking to use MVCC’s Rome facilities, and manage prominent events. Prior to joining MVCC, she worked as a sales associate at Old Navy and was a manager on duty/customer service lead at Tops. Popowski holds an associate degree in early childhood education from MVCC.
Seyed Armin Safizadeh-Shabastary has transitioned to the position of Peace Officer. In accordance with Section 6306 of the NYS Education law, the Board of Trustees has the authority to designate one of more Public Safety Officers as Peace Officer. These designated Officers have the powers as set forth in Section 2.20 of the Criminal Procedure Law. He previously held the position of technical assistant at MVCC since 2014. Safizadeh-Shabastary holds an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences from MVCC.
Dave Warren has transitioned to the position of head coach/athletics specialist. He has held the position of assistant to the associate dean of Athletics at MVCC since 1997 and has been the baseball coach since 2001. He holds an associate degree in applied science – sports and recreation management from Herkimer County Community College and a bachelor’s degree in physical education from SUNY Cortland.
