MVCC announces December new hires, employee title changes, and promotions

Mohawk Valley Community College announces the following new appointments, employee title changes, and promotions as approved by the Board of Trustees at its meetings on Oct. 15, 2018, and Nov. 19, 2018:

  • Elyssa Arnone-Earl, interim executive director, Center for Leadership Excellence
  • DuWayne Engram, completion coach
  • Ushona Mclean, coordinator of CSTEP and STEP
  • Robert Rogan, technical assistant, Information Technology
  • Jairo Emanuel Sabillon, CSTEP program specialist

Elyssa Arnone-Earl was appointed to the position of interim executive director of the Center for Leadership Excellence (CLE) until a search is completed. As such, she will coordinate and attend program events, monitor program outcomes, collaborate with stakeholders, secure financing and continuous enrollment, and represent and market the program in the community. Arnone-Earl has been the coordinator of the CLE since early 2018. Before that, she worked as the director of Community Development and an event specialist at Upstate Cerebral Palsy; a communication specialist at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes; a program manager for the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment; education outreach coordinator at Brooklyn Botanical Gardens; and academic advisor at Jamestown Public Schools and Cautauqua Striders. She holds a master’s degree in adolescence education from Utica College and a bachelor’s degree in environmental and plant biology from Ohio University.

DuWayne Engram has joined the College as a completion coach. In his new role, Engram will be responsible for guiding, mentoring, and advocating for student success completion. He has served as an intern for the Parsons Child and Family Center since 2017 and at the LaSalle School for Boys from 2016-2017, both in Albany. Engram is pursuing a master’s of social work at SUNY Albany, and holds a bachelor’s degree in social welfare from SUNY Albany and an associate degree in human services from MVCC.

Ushona Mclean was appointed to the grant-funded position of coordinator of CSTEP and STEP. She will coordinate the daily work of the CSTEP and STEP grants to ensure compliance with the program goals and objectives. She worked as assistant director and transfer advisor at On Point for College, and previously served MVCC in several roles before that, including senior resident director, resident director, and Office of Institutional Advancement manager. She also has been an adjunct instructor with the College since 2010. Mclean holds a master’s degree in social policy and a bachelor’s degree in community and human services from Empire State College, a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential from Education Staffing Services, and an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences from MVCC.

Robert Rogan was appointed to the position of technical assistant in the Information Technology Department. As such, he will provide technical support and training to faculty, staff, and students, will support multimedia applications, and provide first-level support for the IT Help Desk. He worked previously as a quality manager and residence manager at The Arc Oneida-Lewis Chapter, and served as an intern at North Point Defense, Inc. in Rome as a software engineer and at Terahertz Technologies, Inc. in Oriskany as an assembler. He also worked for MVCC previously as part-time technological support. Rogan holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering technology from SUNY Polytechnic Institute and associate degrees in electrical engineering technology and general studies from MVCC.

Jairo Emanuel Sabillon was appointed to the grant-funded position of CSTEP program specialist, in which he will assist the director and coordinator in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program. Sabillon has been a part-time STEP advisor and adjunct instructor at MVCC since 2017. He also has worked as a part-time principal clerk for the Oneida County Board of Elections and a peer tutor in the English Language Learning Center at Utica College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Utica College and an associate degree in business management from MVCC.
