16 Utica students graduate from Mohawk Valley YouthBuild

Sixteen students from Utica graduated from Mohawk Valley YouthBuild today at a ceremony held at Mohawk Valley Community College’s Utica Campus.
The successful YouthBuild completers are: Breiana Adams, FaTiMah Be, Khaliq Champion, Rachel Connolly, Sonia Cruz Perea, Darrion Douglass, Zachary Garcia Kenyon, Kimika Garrett, Unique Heyward, Kimia Jones, Aida Molina, Yamilex Molina, Ebae Poteat Shambley, Jaquail Pulluaim, Oreon Strickland, and Darvin Warmack.
Mohawk Valley YouthBuild is a free eight-month program that engages at-risk, low-income individuals ages 18 to 24 who need to complete their high school education and develop career skills. The program, which is run out the Mohawk Valley Community College Education Opportunity Center at 524 Elizabeth St. in downtown Utica, prepares students to earn a high school equivalency diploma by successfully passing the TASC exam while developing job skills and training in the fields of construction and hospitality. Students are paid for their work in these areas while gaining real-world, hands-on experience. The program also assists students with building their resumes and planning for college or a career.
