The Uncomfortableness of Equity

The main obstacle to consistent, open conversation about equity is that discussions
surrounding equity arouse an array of thoughts and feelings that create an atmosphere
that is unpleasant, uneasy, and awkward. We simply have to overcome the apprehension
and anxiety that often accompany discussions of equity. This bonus session [presentation,
discussions, and story-sharing] will highlight the internal and external practices
involved in developing the essential growth mindset, communication skills, and persistent
courage necessary to start having and maintaining uncomfortable but healthy conversations
about equity. NOTE: THIS SESSION WILL BE RECORDED.

Active Shooter Awareness Training

Dave Amico, Executive Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management has developed
this presentation that will detail a variety of potential life-threatening scenarios
and will provide us with learning exercises in practical emergency survival skills
as well as the role of law enforcement, notifications of emerging events, and definitions
of such terms as “shelter in place."

Safe Space Training: Part 2 of 2

The Campus Pride Safe Space Program is a nationally recognized program that provides
training and signage for institutions committed to supporting LGBTQ students and their
allies. This training will explain the difference between sexual orientation, gender
identity and gender expression; define terminology used to describe sexual orientation,
gender identity and gender expression; identify ways to create an inclusive classroom
and campus space for LGBTQ students; explore ways to support LGBTQ people in the coming
out process. IMPORTANT NOTE: This session is split over 2 days, with the first half
on Tuesday, August 25th from 2:30-4:30pm.
