Evon M. Ervin, Class of 1997
Deputy Director of Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency
Prior to Community Action, Ervin served as director of the YWCA Mohawk Valley’s transitional housing program and as director of the YWCA’s court-based child care center in Utica. She is a licensed evangelist and president of the missionary board of St. Matthews Temple Church of God in Christ. Ervin is very committed to seeing children and young adults rise above their obstacles.
Ervin is a member of the Utica City School District Board of Education and serves on the district’s diversity and policy committee. Additionally, Ervin serves on the executive committee of the BOCES School Board Institute and as education chair for the Oneida County NAACP.
She is a certified Bridges Out of Poverty Trainer and Getting Ahead Facilitator and is actively involved with Communities That Care, Neighbor Works Home Ownership Center and the Mohawk Valley Community College Alumni Committee. Ervin previously served as a Kids Oneida mentor for at-risk children. She and her husband, Venice, also implemented the start-up program for the JCTOD Youth Program in Johnson Park with Rev. Maria Scates.
Ervin and her husband live in Utica. They have a daughter; Sharronda; a son, Venice II; and five grandchildren.
