Mohawk Valley Community College, in conjunction with the Utica Fire Department, Oneida County Fire Chiefs’ Association, and the Oneida County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, will once again be offering a Junior Fire Fighter Day Camp for boys and girls ages 16-17. The week-long camp will be held July 29 – August 2 at the Utica Fire Academy and Training Facility.
The Junior Firefighter camp provides classroom and practical training to further participants’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in firefighting and emergency operations for certification in NFPA 1001, Standard on Firefighter Professional Qualifications. Throughout the week, junior firefighters will participate in a number of different firematic and EMS stations including master streams, ladder operations, HAZ-MAT, EMS, cribbing and stabilization, mask-confidence, communications, and more.
New this year is an overnight option. Students will participate in the day camp from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and will spend their evenings on the MVCC campus. Meals are included.
The cost for day camp only is $125; the overnight option is $290. Students must be sponsored by their local fire department. To download an application and information sheet, visit www.mvcc.edu/cced. The application deadline is July 10.

All MVCC non-credit instruction is completely self-supporting, including indirect costs, and requires no public funding.
