Lead Renovators Initial Course
As of April 22, 2010, all contractors or landlords working in pre-1978 housing, schools, or child-occupied facilities are required to obtain an EPA firm license and have their workers trained in lead-safe work practices. MVCC is offering these courses which are accredited by the EPA and fulfill the requirements for lead safe training.
This 8-hour initial certification course is required for any renovators without previous training to become a certified lead-safe contractor. Bring a pen, pencil and paper; all other materials are provided. The course concludes with a 25-question exam. Students should also bring a lunch. All classes take place from 8:15 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.. Registration cost is $195.

Asbestos Worker Certification
This thirty-two hour certification is designed for those who engage in large scale removal of asbestos as an occupation or as an integral function of their job. New York State Industrial Code Rule (12NYCRR56) and federal USEPA and USOSHA regulations stipulate that any person employed on an asbestos project whose duties involve the removal, encapsulation, application or enclosure of significant amounts of asbestos containing material hold an Asbestos Handler Certificate. This course includes sixteen (16) hours of practical exercises, and concludes with a fifty (50) question exam. Upon completion, a $50 fee is due to the Department of Labor for final certification. NYSDOH Approved Training Provider: Environmental Education Associates. Registration cost is $560.
