Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does the program cost?

A: The cost of this program is the applicable cost of two semesters of full-time tuition/fees plus uniforms and books (approx. $1000).

Q: Can I get college credit for attending?

A: College credits are awarded for completing courses during the program (for more information: Law Enforcement Certificate or Law Enforcement Degree).

Q: Is financial aid available?

A: Financial aid is available.  Contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for more information.

Q: Is there an age requirement?

A: Students must be at least 20 years of age. There is no maximum age.

Q: When does the class meet?

A: The class will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Q: Where are classes held?

A: Classes are held on the Utica Campus of Mohawk Valley Community College.

Q: When does the program start?

A: The program starts each year at the end of August.

Q: What is the next step if I am interested in entering the program?

A: You should call or email the program Director.

Q: When is the physical fitness test offered?

A: The physical fitness test will be offered between April and July (Tests are scheduled until the class is full).

Q: What is the physical fitness requirement?

A: All individuals must meet or exceed the 40th percentile of the Cooper Standard prior to being considered for the program.  The requirement is as stated below:
