Constitution Day 2017
In celebration of Constitution Day on Wednesday, Sept. 20, MVCC hosted a historical review and panel discussion of the First Amendment in Schafer Theater, Information Technology Building, on the Utica Campus. This event was free and open to the public.
2017 marks the 221st anniversary of the ratification of the First Amendment and the Bill of Rights. The discussion reviewed the historical timeline of the First Amendment and incorporated historical examples of its application. A panel discussion included panelists Leland McCormac, first assistant, Oneida County Public Defender’s Office and MVCC adjunct faculty member of criminal justice; Stacey McCall, assistant professor of history and geography at MVCC; and William Zogby, associate professor of history and geography at MVCC. Marianne Buttenschon, dean of MVCC’s Institute for Emergency Preparedness and Public Service acted as moderator.
