Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems AASTotal Credit Hours: 64
This program is a curriculum of sequential technical courses encompassing the mechanical and electrical systems and operations found in remotely piloted aircraft systems. It offers students the opportunity to work as pilots, operators and/or mission team members of remotely piloted aircraft systems while fully understanding the operational and safety environments of the National Airspace System.
Goals & Outcomes
- 1) Students will be able to identify and classify different unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their operations under the most recent rules and regulations.
- 2) Students will be able to integrate mechanical systems, electrical systems, and programming techniques to assemble and build fully functional UAVs.
- 3) Students will be able to operate UAVs both manually and by utilizing various autopilot systems.
- 4) Students will be able to use cameras and sensors to collect data for the purpose of navigating the UAV and/or for analysis of different applications.
- 5) Students will be able to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain multirotor and fixed wing UAVs.
- 6) Students will be able to develop, review, and implement different mission plans according to specific applications.
- 7) Students will be able to use CAD software to design and manufacture mechanical parts.
- 8) Students will be able to analyze geographical information and integrate a variety of data collected from sensors mounted on the UAVs to create topographical maps.
CF100 College Foundations Seminar
This course is an opportunity for students to develop the skills necessary to be successful in college. Students learn the importance of the faculty-student and advisor-advisee relationship, develop time management techniques, apply effective study skill techniques, recognize the implications of living in a diverse society, utilize college resources, and explore career and transfer requirements. This course provides the foundation and problem-solving skills necessary to develop and interpret engineering drawings using the computer-aided drafting software (AutoCAD). This course will provide the student an understanding of the component systems common to most Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems with an emphasis on effective integration and operations. The course focuses on the core technologies and includes examinations of the control systems, autopilots, data links, power plants (motors), servos/actuators, power sources, sensors and communication technologies utilized in remotely piloted aircraft systems.
