Dental Hygiene Program
Interested in a career as a Dental Hygienist?
Mohawk Valley Community College, in conjunction with SUNY Canton, has developed a curriculum designed to enable students from Central New York to begin their journey in their own backyard. Students will complete the first two years of their Baccalaureate work for the MVCC/SUNY Canton Dental Hygiene Program on the Rome Campus and at the Veterans Administration Outpatient Facility located in the Griffiss Business and Technology Park.
The Dental Hygiene Program, run in partnership with SUNY Canton, trains students to become licensed dental hygienists, who are oral health professionals focusing on prevention and treating oral diseases. Prospective students must apply for admission through SUNY Canton.
The number of dental hygienists positions exceeds the number of licensed hygienists, and this occupation is expected to grow at least 27 percent until the year 2014, according to the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The MVCC/SUNY Canton program is accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
