Description: For students who are on the path to self-sufficiency and who have demonstrated a genuine interest in self-improvement. This scholarship is in memory of Daron Malik Jae Simpson who lost his life due to an act of violence on November 10, 2004. He was just over 2 ½ years of age at the time.
Amount Awarded: $500 for tuition and fees
Criteria Checklist:

  • Must be a single mother
  • A high school graduate in good academic standing
  • Must be matriculated in a degree or certificate program
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours of courses in each qualifying semester
  • Preference will be given to minority residents of the City of Utica who demonstrate financial need and who have taken the initiative to personally improve their lives, and the lives of their families, through employment, training and/or other avenues
