MVCC appoints David Amico to lead Public Safety and Emergency Management

Jul 9, 2013 - Mohawk Valley Community College has appointed David J. Amico ’83 as Executive Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management. Amico will join MVCC’s Department of Public Safety starting July 8 subject to ratification of his appointment by the Board of Trustees.

Jun 7, 2013 - Mohawk Valley Community College is launching a new service, Instant Admit Weeks, designed for convenient college enrollment by graduating high school students and adult learners. Upcoming Instant Admit Weeks are June 3-7 and July 8-12, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Additional openings will be announced in the coming weeks.

Bank of America helps MVCC create New Citizens Academy

May 23, 2013 - On Thursday, May 23, representatives from Bank of America presented a $7,500 grant to the Mohawk Valley Community College Foundation. The grant, part of MVCC’s Challenge and Opportunity major gifts campaign, will be used to support the College’s forthcoming New Citizens Academy.

MVCC graduates one of its largest, most academically accomplished classes

May 22, 2013 - Mohawk Valley Community College will host its Spring 2013 Commencement on Friday, May 24, starting at 4 p.m. in the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Some 1,110 MVCC students have been invited to walk across the stage for conferral of associate degrees or certificates awarded in December 2012, May 2013 or August 2013. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

MVCC’s Pulquerio and Soe Named 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholars

May 21, 2013 - Carlos Pulquerio and Paw Ser Soe, students of MVCC, have been named a 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholars. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each Gold Scholar receives a $1,500 scholarship and a special medallion.

MVCC Student Wins Presidential Transfer Scholarship

May 17, 2013 - Mohawk Valley Community College student Mia DeGironimo was selected to receive the President’s Transfer Scholarship to the University of Maryland in the amount of $10,000 over two years. This competitive scholarship is Maryland’s highest honor to transfer students.

MVCC Student Pawser Soe Wins $30,000 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

May 3, 2013 - Mohawk Valley Community College student Pawser Soe of Utica has been selected to receive a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Soe, an International Studies major, is one of 73 scholars selected from a pool of 769 nominees from 377 community colleges across the country. She is the first student in MVCC history to receive the award.

May 3, 2013 - MVCC student, Joshua Pawlikowski, was awarded the NYS Community College Grand Prize for this years David A. Garfinkel essay contest, which is hosted by the The Historical Society of the New York Courts. Aside from statewide recognition, Pawlikowski received a $1,500 prize at the annual Law Day luncheon at the New York State Court of Appeals in Albany, NY.

Apr 25, 2013 - Eight middle and high school students from Oneida County pitched their business ideas before a panel of 8 real-life investors to compete for funding at the First Annual Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Investor Panel Presentation Event at Mohawk Valley Community College on Thursday, April 18. The students presented before representatives from some of the area’s biggest companies as well as an audience filled with family, friends and members of the community, for the opportunity to gain funding for their original ideas- that could be the next big thing!
