MVCC to host EMS/Paramedic presentation as part of Public Safety Month
As part of Public Safety Month, Mohawk Valley Community College will host a presentation on “Emergency Medical Services (EMS)/Paramedics” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, in Room 225 of the Information Technology Building on the Utica campus. The presentation is a collaborative effort between MVCC’s Marianne Buttenschon, Dean of the Center of Social Sciences, Jamie Cuda, Coordinator Allied Health, and Tony Salce, Education Coordinator of Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare EMS Education Center.
Presenters Donna Luck-Martin and Justin Eaton will stage a mock motor vehicle accident. The mock accident will include the use of the Jaws of Life to remove the patients outlining the care and extrication of live patients and the tools used for removing patients from the wreckage. They will also be holding a presentation detailing the profession and educational requirements of EMS/Paramedics. Luck-Martin is a Basic EMT Instructor for Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare EMS Education Center and is also a practicing paramedic for the Willowvale Fire Department. Eaton is a Basic EMT Lead Instructor for the American Heart Association and is an EMT and firefighter for the Vernon Center Fire Department
This is the first of three free events MVCC will host for Public Safety Month. “Life in the Fire Service” will be presented at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the Theater, and “Policing in the 21st Century” will be presented at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the Theater. All events take place on the Utica campus and are open to the public.
