Leaders of the City of Rome, the Rome Community Foundation, Rome City School District, Mohawk Valley Community College and more will come together on Monday, June 11 to announce the launch of the new Rome Futures Academy summer program. The Rome Futures Academy is a new initiative to help incoming 9th-graders prepare for success in Rome schools on their way to college readiness. The announcement will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the atrium of the MVCC Rome Campus’ Plumley Complex, 1101 Floyd Ave. The public is welcome to attend.
The Rome Futures Academy is free for participating students, who will attend a summer camp at MVCC designed to promote high school success in two career tracks (health care and information technology). The Academy is an alliance among MVCC, the Rome schools and other partners. It is made possible by a significant grant from the Rome Community Foundation.
Additional details of the Rome Futures Academy and the investment by the Rome Community Foundation will be announced during the event. Applications will be available for interested parents. The investment in Rome-area students is part of MVCC’s $7 million Challenge and Opportunity major gifts campaign.
College officials and other dignitaries will be available for Q and A at the conclusion of the public event. The College’s June meeting of the Board of Trustees will immediately follow.
