MVCC Cultural Events for the week, April 9 - 14

Mohawk Valley Community College will host the following events this week as part of its Cultural Series.


On Monday, April 9, the art exhibit “The Academy Strikes Back” will open, featuring works on paper from artists who have taught or shown work at MVCC and trained at the New York Academy of Art. The exhibit will be on view in the Small Works Gallery in the Information Technology Building, Utica campus, through May 10. Gallery hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.


On Tuesday, April 10, comedian Louis Ramey will perform at 8:30 p.m. in the Snack Bar, Alumni College Center, Utica campus. The show is for mature, college-age audiences.


On Wednesday, April 11, MVCC will host “Jitters” Open Mic Night at 7 p.m. in the Snack Bar, Alumni College Center, Utica campus. Signups begin at 6:30 p.m., and a limited supply of free refreshments will be available.


On Thursday, April 12, MVCC’s Fact and Film Series will show “The Hammer” with Matt Hamill at 6 p.m. in Festine Auditorium, Plumley Complex, Rome campus. Admission is $5 general, $2 faculty/staff, and free for MVCC students. This is a DGV event. Hamill is a deaf American amateur wrestler and MMA fighter. Learn more at www.matthamill.com.


MVCC’s Theater Program and Drama Club will present William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Thursday through Saturday, April 12 through 14, at 8 p.m. in the Theater, Information Technology Building, Utica campus. Admission is $5 general, $2 faculty/staff, and free for MVCC students. This is a DGV event.
On Friday, April 13, MVCC will show the Holocaust remembrance movie “Everything Is Illuminated” at 7 p.m. in Festine Auditorium, Plumley Complex, Rome campus. The film stars Elijah Wood and is rated PG13, running for about 106 minutes. Admission is $5 general, $2 faculty/staff, and free for MVCC students. This is a DGV event.
