MVCC’s Pulquerio and Soe Named 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholars

May 21, 2013 - Carlos Pulquerio and Paw Ser Soe, students of MVCC, have been named a 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholars. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each Gold Scholar receives a $1,500 scholarship and a special medallion.

MVCC Student Wins Presidential Transfer Scholarship

May 17, 2013 - Mohawk Valley Community College student Mia DeGironimo was selected to receive the President’s Transfer Scholarship to the University of Maryland in the amount of $10,000 over two years. This competitive scholarship is Maryland’s highest honor to transfer students.

MVCC Student Pawser Soe Wins $30,000 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

May 3, 2013 - Mohawk Valley Community College student Pawser Soe of Utica has been selected to receive a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Soe, an International Studies major, is one of 73 scholars selected from a pool of 769 nominees from 377 community colleges across the country. She is the first student in MVCC history to receive the award.

MVCC Student Takes Grand Prize for Garfinkel Essay Contest

May 3, 2013 - MVCC student, Joshua Pawlikowski, was awarded the NYS Community College Grand Prize for this years David A. Garfinkel essay contest, which is hosted by the The Historical Society of the New York Courts. Aside from statewide recognition, Pawlikowski received a $1,500 prize at the annual Law Day luncheon at the New York State Court of Appeals in Albany, NY.

Young local entrepreneurs to pitch to seasoned business people at April 18 Young Entrepreneurs Academy event

Apr 5, 2013 - On Thursday, April 18, eight local students ages 11 to 19 will take the stage at Mohawk Valley Community College to pitch entrepreneurial plans to prominent local business leaders. The event is a centerpiece of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) at MVCC and is free and open to the public. There will be a reception at 4:30 p.m. and business presentations will begin at 5 p.m. in the Schafer Theater, in the Information Technology building on the Utica campus.

SUNY Chancellor Zimpher visits MVCC to recognize nationally honored students, gathered retirees

Apr 3, 2013 - State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher Ph.D. today visited Mohawk Valley Community College to recognize the achievements of MVCC students Carlos Pulquerio and Pawser Soe. Zimpher presented the students with Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society medals and SUNY Chancellor’s Awards, SUNY’s highest honor for students. The honors were presented during the College’s first-ever Retirees Luncheon, a gathering celebrating MVCC’s retired employees. More than 100 people were in attendance.
