Head Coach: Matthew St. Croix

Head Coach Matthew St. Croix, a Watertown native, enters his sixth season at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Last season, St. Croix guided the Hawks to a 23-8 record during which the team was ranked as high as seventh nationally. The Hawks advanced to the championship game of the NJCAA Region III Tournament for the second consecutive year where they suffered an overtime loss. St. Croix was selected has Third Team All-Region III Coach of Year.  Under St. Croix, the Hawks have had back to back 20-win seasons and have averaged almost 20 wins per year.

St. Croix began his coaching career as an assistant at St. John Fisher College. During his two years, the team compiled a 55-7 record with the Cardinals going 28-1 in the 2005 season. His first head coaching position came the following year at Jefferson Community College, where he guided that team to a 19-11 record. In his first year at the helm at MVCC, the Hawks finished 18-12, reaching the NJCAA Region III Final Four. The following year, the Hawks went 15-15 while making it past the first round of the Region III Tournament.

As a player, St. Croix enjoyed a successful career at St. John Fisher College, winning three Empire 8 championships en route to making two appearances in the NCAA tournament. During his senior season, he was the starting point guard on a team that went 21-4 and lost in the NCAA Division III “Sweet 16.” He also played lacrosse at Fisher and graduated as the college’s all-time leading scorer in goals and assists.

 

Assistant Coach: Andre Peterson

Assistant Coach Andre Peterson returns to MVCC  for his fifth season and following three successful seasons as an  assistant coach with the Utica College Pioneers. His responsibilities at MVCC will be working with the post players, raising their performance  several levels as he did with Utica College.

Prior to coming to UC, Peterson coached a year as the junior varsity and assistant varsity coach for Potsdam High School, which reached the Final Four in the New York State playoffs. While with UC, the Pioneers won the Empire 8 Conference and qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Peterson was a four-year starter for SUNY Potsdam where he finished his playing career as the fourth all-time scorer with over 1,500 points at the college and second all-time for the SUNY Athletic Conference. He was also fourth all-time in rebounding for the SUNY AC which earned him First-Team All SUNY AC three consecutive years and Second Team All-Eastern Region for Division III colleges in the NCAA. In July 2010, Patterson was inducted into the SUNY Potsdam Hall of Fame.

He is also a graduate of Monticello High School where he finished second all-time in scoring and rebounding with 1,200 points and 900 rebounds.
