Central New York Hackathon
November 7th and 8th 2014

Mohawk Valley Community College

The Central New York Hackathon is a local cybersecurity conference and competition designed for students from
Mohawk Valley Community College, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Utica College, and Herkimer College. Friday

evening’s kick-off event features presentations and demonstrations from local cybersecurity experts. On Saturday
students participate in “capture-the-flag” exercises designed to enhance cybersecurity skills. The exercises are

designed and implemented by volunteers from the Air Force Research Lab and local industry professionals. Students
are organized into mixed teams led by experienced students from SUNY Poly’s Network and Computer Security Club.

Students plan, strategize, and customize their workspaces.

9-11 a.m.
Introduction: Securing and exploiting Metasploitable 2.0.

Noon-2 p.m.

Moderate: Targeting and securing virtual machines
with unknown vulnerabilities.

3-4:30 p.m.

Difficult: Active participation by industry professionals increases the
complexity of the environment.
