Spring into Action! MVCC Health and Wellness Session 2 Classes Begin March 12

Mohawk Valley Community College will be offering more of their non-credit health and wellness classes this spring at the MVCC Utica campus, the Jewish Community Center (JCC), 2310 Oneida Street, and Preswick Glen, 210 Clinton Road.  Choose from Zumba®, Yoga, Yogalates, Tai Chi, Cardio, Strengthening, and Fusion classes, taking place from March – April through MVCC’s Center for Corporate and Community Education.  New this semester is Hoopdance, Hip Hop Fitness, and Zumba Toning.

Hoopdance: This cardio workout uses an adult sized hula hoop (about 1.5 lbs.) to build balance, strengthen core muscles, and tone the entire body.  Learn to dance and exercise with the hoop.  Choose from Tuesdays, March 13 – April 24, 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the JCC or Thursdays, March 15 – April 26, 5:00-6:00 p.m. at MVCC. The cost is $45.

Hip Hop Fitness: This class combines the latest music with easy to follow moves to burn calories, boost metabolism, and improve endurance. No dance experience necessary.  Session Two runs Tuesdays, March 13 – April 24, 7:00-8:00 p.m. at MVCC.    The cost is $45.

Zumba Toning: Students learn how to use lightweight, maraca-like toning sticks to enhance rhythm and tone all the target zones including arms, abs, glutes, and thighs.  . Session Two runs Wednesdays, March 14 – April 25, 7:15-8:15 p.m. at the JCC.  The cost is $45.

Fusion: This class blends low-impact aerobics, resistance exercises for the lower and upper body, and core training.  The focus is on strengthening, toning, and balance work. Session Two runs Mondays, March 12 – April 23, 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the JCC.  The cost is $45.

Zumba: This class fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will tone and sculpt the body while burning fat.  Beginners are welcome.  Choose from Mondays, March 12 – April 23, 7:15 – 8:15 p.m. or Fridays, March 16 – April 27, 9:00-10:00 a.m., both at the JCC. The cost is $45.

Cardio Kick & Sculpt: Perfect for all fitness levels, this course offers a blend of cardio activities to tone the whole body and improve cardiovascular endurance.  Students will gain strength, flexibility, and balance while having lots of fun. Session Two will be held Thursdays, March 15 – April 26, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the JCC.  The cost is $45.

Yoga Flex & Flow: This hatha yoga vinyasa flow class teaches participants how to energize their minds and bodies, reduce stress, rebalance their body alignment, dissolve unwanted tension, and build strength.  This course is appropriate for all levels. Session Two runs Tuesdays, March 13 – April 24, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the JCC.  The cost is $55.

Yogalates: This class combines yoga poses and pilates exercises to focus on strengthening, stretching, and balance work.  Choose from Saturdays, March 17 – April 28, 11:00-12:00 p.m. or Wednesdays, March 14 – April 25, 5:00-6:00 p.m., both at MVCC.  The cost is $45.


Strengthen Sculpt and Tone: This course will incorporate the use of resistance bands, hand weights, and the stability ball to increase physical strength, prevent osteoporosis, and help change the body to a more desirable form. Improve core strength and balance as well.  Session Two will be held Tuesday and Thursday, March 13 – April 26, 7:15 – 8:15 p.m.at the JCC.. The cost is $65.

Tai Chi: This ancient, Chinese martial arts practice is renowned as a rejuventator of health and vitality and is ideal for all ages, especially older adults. Choose from Mondays, March 19 – April 23, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at MVCC or Thursdays, March 15 – April 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Preswick Glen.  The cost is $45.
